BEAUTY | HOW I AM NATURALLY CLEARING ACNE


In today's post I am going to be sharing a few natural ways of how I am clearing my acne. These are just a few lifestyle adjustments that I found over the years really helped clearing my acne. Although this probably isn't the best time to be writing this blog post, as I am currently massively breaking out due to all the the stress of uni. Right now, I basically am too stressed to also be aware of these lifestyle adjustments, and just this week, I immediately started breaking out again. So I think it's safe to say that these definitely work on my skin.




DRINK PLENTY OF WATER

The first thing I have incorporated into my lifestyle, is drinking plenty of water. I used to think that drinking 1 to 1,5 liters a day would be enough. Then I slowly started to incorporate 1,5 to 2 liters of water into my daily routine. Right now I try to drink at least 2 to 3 liters of water a day, which can be hard. But I recently got myself a water bottle that contains 800 ml's, which means that I only have to drink 4 of these bottles a day, which is pretty doable!

CUT DOWN ON CAFFEINE

The next thing I changed in my life is my caffeine intake. Caffeine seems to be giving me palpitations and leaves me feeling very shaky in general. I definitely am not a caffeine addict, but I could really do with 1 or 2 coffees a day. But because I seemed to be getting palpitations, I decided to cut back on the caffeine. Ever since I stopped drinking coffee everyday, I also noticed an improvement in my skin. So nowadays I try to treat myself to a good cup of coffee 2 to 3 times a week. All the other days I try to drink my water or some tea.



GET ENOUGH SLEEP

If there's one thing that has a massive influence on my skin, it's getting enough sleep. Back in high school I used to get at least 8 hours of sleep and I never really suffered from acne back then. Ever since I started uni, I somehow can't seem to fall asleep before 12 o'clock. Which is also the time my acne really started acting up. Nowadays I try to be sensible about my sleeping pattern. I like to be in bed between 10 and 11 at night. I then spray some This Works Deep Sleep Pillow spray onto my pillow and read a book before bed. By the time I feel sleepy, it's probably 11.30 at night, sometimes even earlier. Besides me feeling more awake during the day, I also noticed such an improvement in my skin.

EAT LOTS OF FRUIT AND VEG

Eating fruit and vegetables is so good for you. I personally love eating lots of fruit, however these fruits usually contain lots of sugar. To compromise, we probably all should eat a lot more veg than we all think is necessary. Over the past few months I have been really trying to eat incorporate either fruit or vegetables into my meals, and am really starting to notice a difference.


AVOID DAIRY

I kind of started noticing while I started eating more fruits and vegetables, but apparently dairy has an effect on my face. Back in the summer I used to eat lots of yoghurt bowls with fruits, and I just noticed that my pimples only got worse and worse. So I try to avoid dairy as much as possible, however I do take this one thing not too serious. I love having a glass of milk, a hot chocolate or a cappuccino or a latte, so I never truly restrain myself from not using dairy. However I do try to not eat it everyday.

DON'T TOUCH YOUR FACE

The most important thing in this list (besides of course getting enough sleep), is to avoid touching your skin so much. This is such a bad habit of mine, but now that I try to be obvious about it, I notice how much I actually touch my face. Especially when I am in lectures or working at my desk all day. Of course it makes sense to not touch your face as much throughout the day, as there's just lots of germs on there.

    1. You are the sweetest pea Pinja, thank you, you absolute babe! Hahaha, thankfully I never really drank that much coffee to begin with, but I also found it so hard to quit that cuppa coffee a day! I eventually made it through the withdrawal phase though! 👌🏼

  2. I agree with your perfect list but a few things are so hard to quit (or start). I love my coffee too much, I always failed at drinking 2 liters (especially water)and the face touching..... I don't know what it is but I'm always with my hands in my face for some odd reason.

    1. I completely understand what you're saying! It's definitely hard to start them or keep them up when you're not fully aware of having to do these adjustments. These past few weeks have been quite stressful for me, so then I find it hard to be aware of these adjustments. I'm so with you on the drinking enough water and not touching the face. Those definitely are on this list which I struggle with most! Setting reminders in my phone really helped me get into drinking enough water though! :) xx
