RECIPE | MY GO-TO GREEN SMOOTHIES

23 May 2018

I love drinking smoothies. It's one one those drinks I always like to drink, especially now that I have been ill the past couple of days. It’s such a good way to get some veg and vitamins inside of you and I love how filling smoothies are. I am quite a picky eater when it comes to vegetables, so I find that this is such a good way to fill my body with a few more vegetables than I would normally eat.

You always feel just so much better after having a smoothie, which is why I love drinking them alongside my meal in the morning. In today’s post I am going to share my two go-to green smoothies with you. When I was younger I was quite scared by the green colour as I felt like it would never be as tasty as a fruity smoothie. I now always go for a green smoothie as I have learnt to drink it throughout the years. Green smoothies definitely don’t have to taste of all the green, leavy bits that are in there.

Spinach, Apple and Banana smoothie

The first smoothie I am always making is my Spinach Apple and Banana smoothie. This is a very quick and easy smoothie to make. For this recipe you’ll need:
Half a banana
Half an apple
Half a lemon’s juice
Half a celery stick
Hand of spinach
Hand of romaine lettuce
150 ml of water

It’s very easy, I start with cutting my lemon, banana and apple in half. Then I squeeze the lemon into my blending glass and add the water. I break my banana into half again, just so it’s a bit smaller. Then I slice my apple in half and half it again, so that is smaller too. Then just put all of these ingredients into your blender, blend it together for a good four to five minutes or until it’s completely smooth. I poor it into a big mason jar that has a lot ice. I find it’s much nicer to drink when it’s really cold. Because of the banana, apple and lemon it’s quite a sweet smoothie, so even though it does look green and very unappealing, it is in fact very tasty.

Spinach, Mango and Pineapple smoothie

The second smoothie I love making is my Spinach, Mango and Pineapple smoothie. The ingredients are pretty identical to the first smoothie, I just mixed up the fruits so it tastes a bit different. To make it easier for myself in the morning, I usually buy frozen pineapple and mango. This means it’s precut so I don’t have to worry about that anymore. For this recipe you’ll need:
Hand of spinach
Half a celery stick
Half a lemon’s juice
150 ml of water
6-8 pieces of frozen pineapple
10-12 pieces of frozen mango

So again, I start by cutting my lemon up and pouring the lemon juice into the blender. I then add my water, spinach and the celery. Lastly I add the pineapple and the mango. I always am a bit unsure of how much to put in, so I usually add six to eight pieces of pineapple chunks and ten to twelve pieces of mango cubes. I find that you don’t need as much pineapple as mango, as the pineapple usually is quite chunky, whereas the frozen mango I buy is quite small. This just really depends on how much you like of either of these. Then I turn on the blender, get my ice into my mason jar and wait until it’s smooth. Again, it doesn’t look very tasty, but it is quite a refreshing, sweet smoothie because of the pineapple and the mango.

These are my current go-to smoothies to make whenever. Right now I wake up so early that I am just on autopilot during the mornings, so I haven’t really had time to experiment with other ingredients. I also have not yet made my own smoothies with kale in it, so I am dying to try that next. I’ll just have to experiment a bit during the upcoming weekend.
