THE ESSENTIALS | A SPRING WARDROBE CLEAR OUT

For this post I teamed up with Tommy John underwear to show you how I clear out my wardrobe for the spring season. Spring properly started last week and the clocks go an hour forward tonight, so it felt like the perfect timing to write about my spring clear out tips.

I've accumulated these methods that I use by reading other blogs in the past and reading chapters in style books about the wardrobe clear outs, so some of these things might sound familiar to you!

My tip is to grab three boxes, or three garbage bags. Add three different tags to the bags. One box bag is for the clothes you want to donate, one box is for the things you want to keep and one box is for the clothes you need to throw away.

The next thing I do is get everything out of my wardrobe and just start picking things. The things I haven’t worn in over a year I would usually donate, but if they look very worn - like basic white tee’s that aren’t really white any more - I’d say throw them out, because no one will probably want those.

All of the items I do want to keep go back into my closet. But whenever I am not sure on whether or not I want to throw something out or donate it, I usually keep put in the “keep" box. I put that box aside for around two weeks and all the items that I grab towards that are in that box usually come out and disappear back into my closet, because I am clearly not ready to let go of those items just yet. All the items that are still in the “keep” box after two weeks and that I haven’t worn will be donated.

Underwear
Now as to the underwear drawer no one ever wants to talk about: I would say that throwing out underwear is something that I tend to do on a regular basis. I like to get rid of my underwear and buy myself some new underwear every three months.

A boyfriends wardrobe clear out
And a little tip to all of you girls with boyfriends/husbands who don’t want to throw out or donate any of the items they want: Don’t just throw things out without talking to them about it. I never have had a boyfriend but I once tried it with my brother and we ended up having the biggest argument ever. Instead I would say go and try to get him to donate or throw away at least 5 of the items of clothing in his wardrobe. It’s not much, but it’s a start.

Stay with them to see what they throw away, give honest advice and stay calm! You might start noticing that he wants to throw out more, which is even better!

How do you clear out your wardrobe for spring? And how do you get your boyfriend/husband to throw away or donate some of his old clothes? I am curious to see the answers to this. Let me know in the comments!
