HOW I RESHOP MY OWN WARDROBE

Hello my name is Laura and I am fully aware that I am super impulsive shopper. Especially when I was younger I was very impulsive, I would always find myself buying lots of clothes in cheaper high street stores. I would have to blame this on how marketing works. One of the perks of studying Communications with a little bit of marketing is just noticing how easily brands can manipulate you with psychology tricks. The older I get, the more aware I become of their marketing tricks. I now understand why brands communicate a certain way and am definitely more aware of this whenever I want to buy new clothes. In a world where everything is super fast and we are all encouraged to buy more clothes via social media and influencers I actually find myself backing away from it all. I want to live more sustainable and caving into every fashion trend or buying yourself a lot of new clothes from high street stores definitely does not fit into that picture.

If there is one thing I have become aware of in 2018, it’s how many clothes I own that are still in perfect condition and have not been touched as much as they would have wanted it to. Because I have accumulated so many clothes throughout the years, I thought it would be a great idea to just re-evaluate every item in my wardrobe so I am kind of reshopping my whole wardrobe altogether and rediscover older items of clothing. I feel like this is definitely influenced by authors who write about curated wardrobes, as I like to have a very curated wardrobe myself. However back in 2018, I did not know where to start and how to reshop my own wardrobe. After watching the Marie Kondo series on Netflix a couple of weeks ago, which was so satisfying to watch, I decided to just do it in my own way and this is how I reshopped my own wardrobe.

FOUR PRODUCTS FOR GLOWY SKIN

Last week I received lots of DM’s on Instagram after posting my Blue Monday tips because a couple of you guys wanted to know what products I use to make my skin look super healthy/glowy. I have always loved a bit of a glow as it just makes your skin look super fresh and healthy and it makes you look like you have just come back from a lovely trip away in the sun. Back in the day I used to use lots of highlight to achieve this look, but nowadays I find that just these four products can already help me achieve this look I want to go for.

I have written about my skin lots before, so here’s a little break down of what my skin type is like. I am actually quite oily but also have very dehydrated skin. Because I am oily I already produce quite a lot of oils throughout the day, however my skin can also look super dull because I am quite dehydrated. This post basically sums up the four skincare and/or makeup products I like to use on a daily basis to prevent my skin from looking super dull.

Have we all survived Blue Monday today gals? I honestly think mine wasn’t as bad as I initially thought it would be. I had a super productive day today and only now have time to sit down and write todays blog post. It’s been a while since I last wrote and published my blog posts on the same day. I quite like it though! Anyway, I thought it would be fun to share my current night-time routine as I feel like I finally have gotten my evening routine in check after a couple of very stressful months.

We probably all know how important it is to have routines to become accustomed to certain life patterns. Now that I don’t really have to go to university anymore and finished writing my dissertation, I noticed that the little evening routine that I had completely vanished. I went to bed at 4 in the morning and always felt exhausted throughout the day. I basically had switched around my routine and started living at night, which is not good at all. So I started making some adaptions late December and already am noticing such a difference since applying this current night-time routine. I feel a lot more energised, motivated and productive to get stuff done, which is such a great feeling!

BEATING BLUE MONDAY + MY TIPS

January can be quite a difficult month after the holidays and just a lot of grey and dark days in general. On Monday the 21st it’s actually Blue Monday, which supposedly is the most depressing day of the year. I can relate because I remember a couple of years ago feeling super down on this so called Blue Monday. However I am determined to make my Monday less blue this year, so I thought it would be fun to share how I am beating the most depressing day of the year - or just any other day of the year where I feel a bit depressed, meh and down.

MY BLOG VISION FOR 2019

Last year, 2018, did not feel like a good year for my blog. It was one of those years where I was putting most of my creativity and energy into uni assignments and writing my dissertation. This meant that I felt like I barely had time left to also come up with writing blog posts. I felt creatively restricted when it came to my blog, but since I finally feel like I have a bit more time to breathe and focus on my blog, I already have so many creative blog posts ideas.

LIVING AT HOME AT UNIVERSITY

Today I wanted to talk about something that has really been on my mind lately. It all started because of a conversation I had with my brother a couple of weeks ago. One thing led to another and that conversation got me thinking about whether I missed out on certain experiences because I was still living at home instead of on my own or in a house with other students.

Back when I started university in September of 2014 I was so sure of studying in a different city than my hometown. I live in one of the bigger cities here in The Netherlands and was determined to study in a different city to also move into that city. Three weeks into my course I had panic attacks every day and I had no personality left. I felt horrible, which is why I decided to quit studying at that university. In February of 2015 I decided to start studying again, but stay in The Hague, which is where I live. At that time it made no sense for me to move out as I only lived 30 minutes away from university.

BEAUTY DISCOVERIES OF 2018

This past week has really been all about reflection for me personally. Now that I have handed in all of my assignments for university, I feel like I finally have a bit more time on my hands to really look back on 2018 and sit down to write about a couple of beauty, or mostly skincare products that really stood out to me in 2018 and helped clearing up my skin.

In the beginning of 2018 my skin was having quite a rough time. I remember really struggling with it quite a lot. This actually led to me completely changing up my routine, which I am now super happy with and really help control my acne.

MY SELF-CARE GOALS FOR JANUARY

Last week I already talked you through a couple of goals I set myself for this year. Besides setting those goals for myself on a yearly basis, I also wanted to set a couple of goals in January. As you might know last year, especially December was super busy and stressful for me. This stressful time has left me feeling extremely exhausted, which made me think it’s so important to make self-care a goal in January.

The root of me feeling, first stressed and now exhausted is university. I already talked about my dissertation a bit on the blog and if you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen that I handed in my dissertation on Monday. So after quite a stressful 9 months, I finally feel like I can spend a bit more time on taking care of my mind and my body to rest. So my goal of January is to take care of myself. I already have a couple of mindful activities in mind that I am really hoping to be doing this month, as well as the rest of the year.

FIVE FAVOURITES OF DECEMBER

Of course I have to start the New Year with also mentioning the five products I have loved in the month of December. The beginning of December was pretty much spent on autopilot trying to make it from deadline to deadline for university. Stress really took the best of me during December, which meant that December firstly was all about comfort. After I had finished the deadlines it meant I was all about self-care, doing fun things with friends and eating lots of lovely foods to celebrate the holidays.

FASHION FAVOURITES OF 2018

Last year I wrote my first ‘fashion favourites of a year’ post, and I thought it would be super fun to write one again this year. It’s been quite the year style-wise, as I had already discussed in my 2018 in outfits post. I felt a bit lost with my style in 2018, which led to me gravitating towards mostly basics inside of my wardrobe throughout the year. It comes as no surprise that these items turned out to be my fashion favourites of 2018.

Just before I start completely with all the other content I had planned, I thought it would also be fun to also share a couple of highlights from 2018 with you on my blog. Since I wrote that one of my goals is to be appreciative of everything, I thought this would be such a good way to start off the year by appreciating every memory of last year. It does not matter if these memories are big or small, they are all to be appreciated and captured. And I think they might give you a bit more of an insight into what I have been up to besides my blog, as you really get to know me and my life a bit better. Also a little warning, this is probably one of the longest posts I wrote in a while, if not ever! So I hope it's still somewhat entertaining to read.

MY GOALS FOR 2019

Happy New Year gals! I cannot believe we’re officially in 2019 now. Hopefully you have had the best NYE celebrations and the start of your new year has been good. I find it hard to actually come up with resolutions, as it’s a known fact that halfway through January we usually end up giving up these set resolutions. Instead I decided to write down a couple of goals I set myself this year, as I find it easier to accomplish those.

I used to write lots of ‘goals I set myself this month’ posts throughout the beginning of last year. Then throughout the year I got busier with writing my dissertation, which led to me only focussing on that aspect of my life, and less so on realising monthly goals as well as just other aspects of life. So it really feels as if 2019 is my fresh start where I can really try to focus on goals I set myself in this blog post. Besides that I also would love to bring back my monthly goals posts, as I really did notice that they were really motivating me to do better in life and with my blog and Instagram.
