WHY I LOVE USING HYALURONIC ACID

It has been a while since I last wrote about my skin. It was the autumn of 2018 and I have made quite a few skin adaptions ever since writing that post. One of the main things that has changed in my skincare routine is that I added hyaluronic acid into my skincare routine. I have read a lot about hyaluronic acids over the years and something that stuck to me is that it’s usually used in anti-aging products. The reason for this is the older you get, the more you lose the ability to retain water in your skin, which can cause wrinkles, dryness and doesn’t repair your skin as fast as you would normally do. So this was always one of the main reasons why I avoided hyaluronic acid. I thought it wasn’t suitable for my skin, as I didn’t deal with wrinkles and dryness as other people do. My skin was always combination to oily, which is why I felt like it wouldn’t be a match for me.

After doing a lot of reading online, mainly on Caroline Hirons’ blog, I discovered that you can easily break out from lack of moisture in your skin. This means that your skin produces more oil to compensate for the lack of water in your skin. Since my skin was also looking very gray, pale and a bit tight after washing it, something clicked in my brain. Maybe I was suffering with acne because my skin just couldn’t retain enough water to moisturise and repair my skin. And all the harsh products I had used over the years to clear my acne, actually made my skin dehydrated and tight. It made my skin feel parched and I started noticing fine lines on my forehead. I knew I needed to start taking action now, before I will be in my fifties in twenty years time and will curse myself for listening better to my skin’s needs. As you might have guessed, this post is basically a big shoutout to hyaluronic acid. It has really helped me gain confidence and made my skin look plump and glowy. This is in no way sponsored; I am just super enthusiastic about the products I am currently using that contain hyaluronic acid.

My skin felt parched and tight and looked grey

On that winter day in February when everything seemed to click inside my brain I immediately went to look for moisturisers that include hyaluronic acid. Back then I still had a sample of the Clinique Moisture Surge lying around and found out it also contains hyaluronic acid. That was my first little step into using hyaluronic acid. After only using that day cream for a week, I already noticed such a difference in my skin. As soon as I started using it, I noticed that my skin would feel more comfortable throughout the day. The cream would sink into my skin and made me feel moisturised throughout the day. Before I would usually feel uncomfortable and super oily yet dry when I was out and about all day. After that I started testing with more and more products that contain hyaluronic acid. I immediately started noticing a difference, but knew I needed to give it a bit longer of a go to really start seeing results. Before I used hyaluronic acid my skin felt and looked gray, dehydrated and tired. After using this product for 1,5 months I noticed how much it helped to make me look more plump and glowy, which was just the effect I was after.

It’s now been about three months since I started adding hyaluronic acid to my skincare routine and I love to lather it all on. I am pretty sure my skin can’t seem to retain as much water as someone else my age, because of the environment I live in – I spend a lot of time in central heating and I live in a city that is quite polluted. My problem basically was that the environmental aggressors were affecting my natural moisture levels and was just extremely dehydrated. So since I started adding hyaluronic acid into my skincare routine, I have become obsessed with it and am constantly recommending it to people around me, such as my parents, family and friends.

Hyaluronic Acid is preventing any of my big breakouts

Like I said before I have now used products that contain hyaluronic acid for three months and not only have I felt more comfortable in my skin, I also noticed that it has had an effect on my acne and the scarring I get from it. It isn’t really that surprising, as my skin can finally be comfortable and doesn’t have to overcompensate in oil production to give my face enough moisture. Now that there’s enough water inside of my skin, I actually have noticeably less pimples than before. I seem to have pretty even skin nowadays and get an occasional pimple, but it’s nowhere near as bad as I had them before.

It helps fade my acne scars

Another thing that I have noticed since using hyaluronic acid, is that my acne scars seem to be fading more quickly. This is another big bonus for me as I have always felt insecure about them. Ever since adding hyaluronic acid I gained confidence as my skin was finally looking plump, healthy, alive and somewhat even again. Ever since I started incorporating more hyaluronic acids into my skincare I have felt more confident to go outside with less makeup on. This automatically also leads to have lesser acne breakouts.

Please note that I am nowhere near a skincare expert and just find that this works really well for me, my skin and helps to prevent my from having lots of acne outbreaks. If you suffer from acne and are looking into solving it, I would recommend visiting a dermatologist or your GP, as they can help you find out what might cause it and how you might cure it.

Let me know if you’re a big lover of hyaluronic acid too, and I need more products to try! I would love to know what you use that contains hyaluronic acid!

  1. I haven't been a massive hyaluronic acid advocate, but I just realised that whenever I've used a product with it I've actually loved it! This was a good reminder for me to start paying more attention to hyaluronic acid again, as I really do think it makes such a difference!
