MY SELF-CARE GOALS FOR JANUARY

Last week I already talked you through a couple of goals I set myself for this year. Besides setting those goals for myself on a yearly basis, I also wanted to set a couple of goals in January. As you might know last year, especially December was super busy and stressful for me. This stressful time has left me feeling extremely exhausted, which made me think it’s so important to make self-care a goal in January.

The root of me feeling, first stressed and now exhausted is university. I already talked about my dissertation a bit on the blog and if you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen that I handed in my dissertation on Monday. So after quite a stressful 9 months, I finally feel like I can spend a bit more time on taking care of my mind and my body to rest. So my goal of January is to take care of myself. I already have a couple of mindful activities in mind that I am really hoping to be doing this month, as well as the rest of the year.

Start fresh in my bullet journal

With the New Year rolling around, I also want to start bullet journaling again. I think I started bullet journaling somewhere in January last year. At first I was quite confused by how bullet journals work and stuff, but after doing it for a little while now, I actually find it very relaxing to start working on new so-called ‘weekly spreads’, as well as to draw out habit trackers. My bullet journal definitely isn’t as photogenic as some of the bullet journals you can find on Pinterest or YouTube, but drawing out my bullet journal and just planning things in my bullet journal in general makes me feel super excited.

I even went into an arts and crafts store earlier today to get myself some proper pens to to start doing some calligraphy too so I can make a couple of pages for January dedicated to being mindful and grateful for everything. This is super fun to look back on at the end of the month, year and even in a couple of years time.

Finally finish Crazy Rich Asians

In my 2019 goals post I already wrote that I plan on reading at least 15 books this year. That’s quite a lot, but I am super dedicated to reading 15 books this year. My dissertation made me super tired and I just did not want to read anymore after spending all day looking at words. Now that I finally have a bit more time on my hand, I am determined to finish reading Crazy Rich Asians, which I started reading in September last year. But after going back to uni in September, the year basically flew by within the blink of an eye and I just had not had the energy or the motivation to read.

Since I handed in my dissertation on Monday, I already started reading Crazy Rich Asians again. It’s making me super excited to read the book and to also start new books the rest of the year. So my goal for January is to be super mindful of the book reading sessions I plan in throughout the day, as well as finishing Crazy Rich Asians this month.

Appreciate silence

I am not sure whether this is just something I struggle with, or whether you have this too… Anyway, when I am stressed my mind seems to go into overdrive, even at night when I need to fall asleep my mind can’t seem to stop thinking about things. This may sound a bit weird, but I actually love and really enjoy silence. That’s why this month I also would love to spend 5 minutes just appreciating silence. We live in a world where there is noise everywhere, and it can really wear me out from time to time as there’s also so much noise going on inside my head. This month is the month where I take 5 minutes out of my day everyday to just appreciate the day and feel connected to it too.

What I'm wearing
Weekday shirt (similar), Pull & Bear camel coat (similar), ZARA pleather leggings, Adidas Yung 96-J trainers, Lancaster bag

  1. What a great idea to have a few self-care goals! I think I need to adopt this to my life too, especially for the more stressful periods when self care tends to be the first things that goes out the window.. Loved this post Laura ♥︎ xx
