HOW I RELAX ON SUMMER EVENINGS

This post contains a gifted item.

A few weeks ago we had this heat wave around Europe. I am sure it hasn’t gone unnoticed as it was all over the news in the whole of Europe. Ever since that heat wave I have appreciated taking things slow during my summer evenings. I don’t feel the need to spend a long time on my phone. I have actually preferred switching off at night this summer and making time for me to enjoy some me time. It probably comes as no surprise that the introvert in me gets so much energy from this sort of evening routine. As much as I love spending time with friends and family by catching up on them, I also love to spend time by myself to recharge my battery.

Quick shower

If I am really pampering myself, I like to go all out. Most people love to take baths, but I am going to say something very controversial. I actually don’t like to sit in the bath, instead I prefer to take a really quick shower at night. These showers never really take me too long as I only take showers that last only five minutes. But they are just long enough for me to destress and feel like I am ready to start my summer evening routine.

Wash my face

Obviously I am looking most forward to washing my face at night. It’s such a great feeling to wash off all the grime, sweat and tinted moisturiser that is on my face after spending a day in the house or in town. I love to double cleanse at night by using the Pixi Double Cleanser, which contains a cleansing balm and a cleansing cream. I feel super clean and chilled already after washing my face, which is just the kind of vibe I need at night.

Make myself a tea and grab a snack

After I have taken a shower and/or washed my face at night, I always like to go downstairs real quick to make myself a tea and grab a snack. I love to drink green tea or some kind of herbal tea at night. Sometimes I can feel quite bloated at the end of the day and some herbal teas really help with that bloated feeling. I also grab myself a little snack to have. Some days this can be fruit, but most of the time I like to eat a little bit of chocolate or some biscuits. Eating something sweet as a ‘dessert’ at night is always so lovely.

Watch a film or series until around 9.30

Once I have got my tea and snack I go back up to my room. This is usually my first moment to get some downtime in. I love watching a film or series at night while drinking my tea and having my snack. Lately I have been catching up on The Hills and Yummy Mummies. The episodes are long enough to drink my cup of tea and eat my snack before completely turning off all digital devices at 9.30 in the evening.

Spray some sleep spray

I basically live from my bed at night. My bed is the most prominent thing in my bedroom, so it’s easy to go into your bedroom at night and lay in bed while watching a film or series. After turning off all digital devices and before properly settling in bed to try and fall asleep, I like to spray some pillow spray on my bedding. If you have been a follower of my blog for a couple of years now, you know by now that I am obsessed with pillow sleep spray to fall asleep. I struggle falling asleep and if I don’t spray on a pillow spray, I spend most of my night awake. I have tried multiple pillow sprays, but my favourite sleep spray is from This Works. In the past I have bought that pillow spray for myself on multiple times as I love it so much. This past year I however I was contacted by This Works to ask if I wanted to be a part of their skinfluencer team. As this brand is already incorporated into my life and I love it so much, I jumped to this opportunity. Nowadays I am lucky enough to be sent pillow sprays every once in every while.

You can actually get £5 off your order when you spend £20 or more with the code 'Styleandsushi5', which is amazing! I'm definitely going to be repurchasing some of my favourite things with that.

Read a book in to end my day and fall asleep

At around 9.30-10.00 in the evening I like to turn my tv off and focus on trying to fall asleep. If you have been following me for a little while now, you might know by now that I have extreme difficulties falling asleep at night. My brain tends to go into overdrive. This year I have come to the realisation that putting away my phone away at night helps me fall asleep a lot easier at night. Instead of spending my evening on my phone, I like to read books instead. This is something in my evening routine that hasn’t changed that much since the beginning of this year, but it has had a huge impact on my physical and mental health. For the first time in a long while I am able to fall asleep before 12 o’clock at night and I have fallen back in love with reading.

So that’s my evening routine on summer evenings. I have definitely learned to fall in love with taking time for myself at nights and by going offline. What is your favourite part of your evening routine?
